Must've been a big house! I see 7 adults and 4 teenagers and 6 children. Can you imagine cooking doing laundry for that crew?
It's worth noting that an even older man named George Swingler (1750-1760) lived a few line items away, and Ethelridge Clemons was on the next page, age 40-50. Also Betsy Clemons, age 40-50 a few lines below Ethelridge.
Moving right along, in 1840, Job seems to have disappeared from Wilson County. We have a John Swindle the right age to be one of the young men in Job's house ten years earlier. John's wife doesn't seem to match anybody from the previous household, and there are now 4 children under the age of ten in his household.
AND...
also in Wilson County in 1840, we have Joseph Swindle, who is 1811-1820, with a wife (Mandy) and three little girls under ten.
AND...
Josiah, who is 1791-1800, with a wife? the same age, an older woman (Maggie 1771-1780) a teenage boy (Ringo 1821-1829), a teen girl also 1821-1829 (Janis), a girl age 10-14 (Dolly 1826-1830), and two boys under ten. I'm hereby naming these people so I can keep them straight. Ha.
AND...
Pellage Swindle, who is 1791-1800, same as Josiah. Aaaaargh. Pelledge has a wife (Mandy) 1801-1810, a girl (Ursula) 1821-1825, a boy (Frank)1826-1830, another boy (Fred) 1826-1830, a boy 1831-1835, another boy 1831-1835, and one boy under the age of five.
Bear with me, there is a method to all this madness.....

Daniel Swindle of Laurens SC and Tuscaloosa AL
Today I did a search for a list of nine-year old Swindle boys in the 1820 census. Since Enoch had both SC and TN as his place of birth (on various censuses), and Alabama and Arkansas didn't exist until almost a decade later, I decided to just concentrate on whatever I found first, and here it is.....
Daniel Swindle of Laurens County, SC - born 1776-1794
wife born 1776-1794 - (jude cobb of the 1850 census was born 1790)
#1Boy born 1805-1810
#2Boy born 1810-1820 (Enoch? or George?)
#1Girl born 1810-1820
#2Girl born 1810-1820 (possibly Mary E. born 1815, married William H. Osburn and had Margaret, Elizabeth, james, Emily and virginia)
#3Girl born 1810-1820
So, this Daniel had four children under 10 years of age and one teenage boy.
In 1830, there was no Daniel in SC. The only one listed was in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Daniel Swindle of Tuscaloosa, AL - born 1781-1790
wife born 1790-1800 (still the right age to be jude cobb)
#3Boy born 1816-1820 george? (m Cynthia and had hosea, cornelia and john f.)
#1Girl born 1816-1820 could be one of those three girls above
#4Girl born 1821-1825 born after the 1820 census
#5Girl born 1825-1830 born after the 1820 census
So, if this is the same Daniel (and Jude?), enoch has left home (he would be 19), one girl is still at home, and two more girls were added to the family.
Moving right along, we go to 1840 and search for Daniel and/or Jude.
Daniel Swindle of Tuscaloosa, AL - born 1781-1790
wife born 1790-1800
#2 or #3 Boy born 1811-1820 (enoch? George?)
#4Girl born 1821-1825 (matches 1830 above)
#5Girl born 1826-1830 (matches 1830 above)
enoch would be 29, so he either came home or this is the brother the 1820 census missed because he was actually born in 1820 after the census taker had already been there.
So far, we have 3 boys and 5 girls born to this couple, presumably.
Also in Tuscaloosa County in 1840, we have Herrod Swindle, Wylie Swindle and Jesse Swindle as heads of households. All three are between 40-50 years old, making them the right age to be brothers of Daniel rather than sons.
